non-lucrative visa or NLV TO LIVE IN SPAIN
A non-lucrative visa or NLV is usually the best solution for people who intend to retire in Spain.
This visa is granted for one year and is subject to meeting the following requirements:
- Proof of income or savings (currently set at £25,000 per person per year)
- Lack of a criminal record
- A health insurance policy that operates in Spain
- A certificate of good health issued by your GP or a different medical practitioner in the UK
However, it is subject to the following limitations:
- You must move to Spain within 90 days of obtaining the visa
- You may not work under this visa
- You must reside in Spain for at least 6 months per year in order to renew your visa, making you liable for taxes in Spain
- You may not bring relatives with you other than your spouse or minor children
